The O.C. was probably the most defining teen TV shows of the early ninties. Filled with angst and tension, the characters at the display—mostly a bunch of privileged top schoolers from California’s Orange County—gave the look to be feuding with each and every different every episode. They also had some of the maximum endearing bonds and bullet-proof friendships.
But were the ones friendships simply restricted to the screen, or did the cast get alongside in actual life too? And if this is the case, are the cast contributors still friends today?
Since the display ended, the cast have traveled in different directions, some pursuing careers in film while others withdrawing to focus on circle of relatives life. While not all the cast members want to keep talking about The O.C., including Adam Brody, they have sometimes revealed the place they stand today with their former co-stars.
Read on to find out which O.C. cast participants are still friends.
Did The Cast Of ‘The O.C.’ Get Along?
The cast of The O.C. have been launched to global stardom when the angsty youngster drama premiered in 2003. The younger actors struggled with reputation as their characters made them family names, and discovering strength of their on-set friendships helped them to cope with the pressure.
But have been all the actors friends in actual life whilst they had been making the show?
According to Cheat Sheet, no less than two of the actors got along really smartly: Ben McKenzie and Adam Brody. The bromance between their characters Ryan Atwood and Seth Cohen on display was in reality authentic, as Ben confirmed that they were given alongside and had fun while filming.
While many of the cast seem to have positive recollections from their time on set, Mischa Barton recalled tension between the actors.
“It’s a bit complicated," Mischa said in an interview cited by Cosmopolitan, referring to her premature departure from the series at the end of the third season.
"It began beautiful early on as it had so much to do with them including Rachel [Bilson] in final minute as—after the first season—a series common and night out everyone's pay. And kind of basic bullying from some men on set that more or less felt in reality s**tty."
According to the Independent, the show’s creator Josh Schwartz revealed that Mischa, who portrayed Marissa Cooper, had “a complicated chemistry with the cast”, before adding that she “wasn’t actively seeking to leave the show.”
Tate Donovan, who portrayed Marissa’s father Jimmy Cooper, claimed (via the Independent) in 2013 that by the show’s third season, “the kids had developed a really bad attitude. They just didn’t want to be doing the show anymore. It was pretty tough. They were pretty tough to work with.”
The publication also reports that Peter Gallagher, one of the cast’s older actors who portrayed Seth’s father Sandy Cohen, had “discussions” at the time with the younger cast members about “how one should behave.”
Do ‘The O.C.’ Cast Still Get Along Today?
There may have been some tension on set in between the friendships, and whether those friendships have lasted is different for each individual cast member.
Cheat Sheet confirms that Ben McKenzie and Adam Brody are still friends. Even though Ben wasn’t invited to Adam’s 2014 nuptials to Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester, the two remain friends to this day.
Meanwhile, Melinda Clarke, who portrayed the show’s villain-turned-hero Julie Cooper, also revealed that most of the cast members got along then and she still speaks to many of them including Peter Gallagher, Tate Donovan, Kelly Rowan (who played Kirsten Cohen) and Adam Brody. However, she notably left out Mischa Barton.
Melinda is also clearly still friends with Rachel Bilson, as the two have appeared together on Rachel’s podcast Welcome to The O.C., B****es.
On the podcast, Rachel responded to Mischa Barton’s comments about having negative memories from the set, leaving fans to question whether the two really are still friends.
“In one of her first comments she said that I was added last minute after the first season, which is actually completely false and not what happened,” Rachel explained.
However, there’s still hope that the two can reconcile, as Rachel did add, “I would actually like to talk to her and find out what her experience was from her perspective. I saw things a little differently, I guess."
Rachel is also still on good terms with Adam Brody, evidenced through the photograph the two took together when they bumped into every other at the airport again in 2016.
Did Any Of ‘The O.C.’ Cast Date?
The O.C. used to be filled with steamy moments and dating drama, but have been there any romances on set in actual lifestyles?
Yes!
Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson famously dated in actual life for many of the display’s run, calling it quits only some months earlier than the season finale premiered, in which their characters mockingly tied the knot.
